Aight ch'all, here goes another news report from around the industry. Since I personally reside in Miami, I'll start this update off with some Miaim news. Luther Campbell (Luke) was recently arrested at our local club Zen in South Beach when he hit 18 year old Mathieu Favrice from New York over the head la Puffy with a bottle. The reason Luke hit him was because him and his crew couldn't see the show since Favrice was in their way. Just a reminder to all the Old(New) Yorkers, don't brind the drama to Miami, hehe.
A reminder to all the commercial heads, The Source has announced their lineup of performers for The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards. Sadly, the list includes acts like Puffy (watch your cranium), Master P, Juvenile, Nas(-Escobar), DMX and his fellow Ruff Ryders. The show airs on UPN from 8-10pm ET/PT on August 20.
Red/Method Man's album "America's Most Blunted" is reportedly finished and only contains 3 previously released cuts. The 16 track album is produced by Eric Sermon and RZA and is set to be realesed (hopefully) September 28.
Jay Z and DMX are releasing their own solo albums before Christmas before working on their Murder Inc. album which includes Ja Rule. DMX is also set to perform at Woodstock '99. Hopefully he'll get trampled by the mud people in a mosh pit. He was also recently arrested in Trinidad for cursing on stage which is against the law in that island.
Got some non-law-breaking-related news concerning Ol' Dirty Bastard (aka Osirus aka Big Baby Jesus aka I lost track). His mostly RZA produced album is due to hit stores August 24th. This is assuming he has no more run ins with the law.
The movie "Thicker Than Water" starring Mack 10 and Fat Joe (BIG wardrobe!) is dropping a soundtrack September 21. Guests include Draft Pick, Ice Cube, King Tee, Memphis Bleek, Noreaga, and Westside Connection.
In following of almost every other rap act, Mobb Deep will be realesing a straight to video movie which will also star Nas. Maybe that's why it's taking so long for their album to come out. Hmmmmm...
In a more recent lyrical raping of the late Tupac Shakur, Interscope is ready to put out yet another one of his albums which is supposed to include Outlaw on August 17. I think Tupac has now released twice as many albums (bootlegs included) after his death than before. Let the man rest in PEACE.
Master P has finally been officially dropped from the WCW (they need to drop him off the planet and let him "uuugghhh" into outer space). He promised to sell out all venues featuring his name, but has only received "booes" from the withering crowds.
Busta Rhyme's next album should be comming out at the end of the millenium. It's tentatively titiled "The Anarchy".
Heiro member Del is almost finished woth his fourth LP "Both Sides Of The Brain"
DJ Melo-D is in the studio (or on the tables) working on "World Famous Beat Junkies Vol. III" mixtape.
Public Enemy released "There's A Poison Goin' On", and now Flavor Flav is finishing his long overdue solo project titled "It's About Time".
Afu Ra will finally be releasing his LP "The Body Of The Life Force" in late August. DJ Premier will be doing the executive production
Kool Keith has reportedly had a falling out between him and his DJ/Producer Kurtmaster Kurt. According to Keith's website, Kurt lied and said that Keith had been admitted into an assilum, when in fact, he was busy at work for the Sprite commercial.
Plam Pictures' film "Black and White" starring Raekwon is facing controversy from the Motion Pictures Association of America. The film features a threesome scene which had to be edited to avoid an NC-17 rating (damn it). The film also features Method Man, Ghostface Killa, Claudia Schiffer and Robert Downey Jr.
Finally, props to DJ P Trix for winning the US DJ finals in San Francisco. He will move on to New York to represent the US in the World finals on Septmeber 17th and 18th. Remember last year's winner was our very own DJ Craze from Miami. Just thought I'd add that part in :o)
Well that's it for the industry news and rumors. Remember to come back often for neverending updates. Peash.
